GPT-4 input was $30 per million tokens in March 2023. GPT-5 hit $1.25. GPT-5.6 Sol is back at $5. “1,000× cheaper” only if you swap to a nano model.

How to read this
Log scale, official list prices, input, short context. Flagship-to-flagship is about 6–24× cheaper, not 1,000×. GPT-4 $30 → GPT-5 nano $0.05 is ~600×. Current Sonnet 5 and Grok 4.6 are $2 input.
